There is a photo on Facebook that a few of my closest friends and I hold very dear. It’s from our high school days, so the picture brings up a certain feeling of nostalgia – so much so that we use the comment thread on it to keep in touch. We’ve generated about 500 comments on the post, a number that I thought was staggering.
Until I heard about this epic post.
Avid Frontierville player Cathy Matthews has spearheaded a campaign to break a lesser-known Guinness World record. She wants to hold the title for most comments on a single Facebook post. At the time of her submission, the particular post in question had 1,000,733 comments.
The actual update was posted to an open Facebook group created for the sole purpose of beating the record. As of now, the current record is 529,335 comments on a single post, one made by an Italian man in January of 2011.
Here’s the actual post in question:
“I’m no spring chicken anymore and I really haven’t done anything phenomenal,” Matthews told FOX 40 in Sacramento.
She claims that about 107 people participated in the world record attempt, which as of right now totals just shy of 9,400 comments per person. Many of the comments aren’t that meaningful – two-letter words, hearts, smiley faces and such. But the sheer willpower to keep a thread going for 1 million+ comments is impressive, don’t you think?
