Yahoo’s Flurry released some new research on mobile device and app activation from Christmas Day, giving us a look into what devices were gifted this year.
Apple accounted for 51% of the new activations worldwide recognized by Flurry in the week leading up to and including Christmas Day (Dec. 19-25).
On Christmas Day in the U.S., Flurry tracked 2.5x the number of app installs as compared to an average day in the first three weeks of December.
Additionally, phablets became more popular. In the week leading up to Christmas, 13% of new device activations were phablets, compared to just 4% in 2013. The iPhone 6 Plus was one of the top 5 devices Flurry saw activated for Christmas. The iPhone 6 was #1.
For 2015, Flurry expects strong performance from iOS devices and a continued shift to phablets.
