There have been a lot of rumors and speculation about Google Maps on iOS over the past week or so, but Google Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt has set the record straight in relation to one rumor. Apple is not currently holding up the Google Maps app for iOS.
Reuters reports that Schmidt confirmed that Google has “not done anything yet.”
“We think it would have been better if they had kept ours. But what do I know? What were we going to do, force them not to change their mind? It’s their call,” he’s quoted as saying.
iOS users have been very vocal in their disappointment with Apple’s Maps, which replaced Google Maps on iPhones, iPods and iPads when Apple launched iOS 6. Reports have indicated that users may have a Google Maps app before Christmas. Meanwhile, Apple is said to be recruiting people from the Google Maps team (which currently has over 7,000 people).
