Google+ to Get Address Book Uploader Soon

  • Rohit Kare from the Google+ team said today that Google will be rolling out an address book uploader for Google+ over the next few days. He discussed this in the above video, as well as in a Google+ post.

“Many email systems— and even some social networks — put users in charge of their own data by helping them export their contacts in the standard CSV or vCard formats,” he said. “One thing about our uploader is that we won’t mix your imported contacts up with all of your other Google Contacts. We only store the ones that you put into your Circles.”

“We’re hoping our new address book uploader helps users discover new ways to find their friends,” he added. “As always, keep the feedback coming, and thanks for using Google+!”

Speaking of feedback, Google has been pretty good about talking with users about Google+ over the two weeks since its launch. Earlier, we reported on a Gmail “hangout” session discussing possible future integrations with the new social network, as well as a Q&A with Joseph Smarr of the Google+ team, who has been very open about some features that may be on the horizon – features that some Googlers themselves want to see come to fruition.

The service is very, very young, and is causing a great deal of user enthusiasm. There is no question that we’ll see Google launch plenty more features that are at this point not present yet. It doesn’t even a proper search feature yet, beyond people search, and I seriously doubt that Google will neglect that for too long. This is Google after all.
