Facebook released its first earnings report as a public company today. In that, the company provided its latest user count – 955 million active users.
As you may recall, Facebook announced that it would acquire Instagram earlier this year, and its user numbers, while significantly smaller than that, are nothing to shake a stick at. The company announced today that Instagram has hit the 80 million user milestone, and those users have shared about 4 billion photos.
Instagram posted the following message to its blog:
We’re excited to announce that the Instagram community has grown to over 80 million registered users who have shared nearly 4 billion photos! Since we launched Instagram in October 2010, we’ve expanded from one platform to two, bringing Instagram to Android users as well as iOS users. As the community has grown, we’ve seen people sharing photos from all around the world, from South Korea to Bolivia, and even underwater!
We’re humbled by the amazing photos from people’s lives we see every day on Instagram, and thank you for being part of this growing community.
The Instagram Team
Instagram’s user base has no doubt been helped to some extent by the Facebook acquisition news, though the acquisition has yet to close. It was definitely helped greatly by the addition earlier this year of an Android app.
