  • Cate Blanchett is set to star in the biopic of the legendary comedian, Lucille Ball. The biopic will be written by Aaron Sorkin and to be produced by Ball’s two children- Desi Arnaz Jr. and Lucie Arnaz.

The film will follow the actress’ 20-year marriage to her I Love Lucy costar Desi Arnaz, The Hollywood Reporter revealed.

Blanchett also portrayed American icons like, Katharine Hepburn for the film The Aviator and singer Bob Dylan for the film I’m not There.

Sorkin, however, is best known for creating The West Wing. He also gained critical acclaim and won Best Adapted Screenplay for The Social Network. His upcoming project, Steve Jobs, starring Michael Fassbender, will come to cinemas October 9.

This new biopic is not the first time Ball’s life has been made into a film. First, there was Lucy & Desi in 1991 with Maurice Bernard and Frances Fisher as the main characters, and the latest is Lucy in 2003 starring Rachel York.

Before she came to Hollywood and rose to fame in I Love Lucy, Ball had a modeling career in New York. She then participated in small roles in movies for RKO Radio Pictures.

Ball eloped with Arnaz, a Cuban band leader in 1940. In 1951, the two created I Love Lucy which became one of the most loved TV programs in the history of US television. It was produced by the Desilu Productions. The TV series ran from 1951 to 1960.

She gave birth to Lucie in 1951 and to Desi Jr. in 1953. Ball and Arnaz parted ways in 1960. In 1962, She started running Desilu Productions.

Ball is recognized as one of the pioneers of female comedy. Her achievements have made a big impact on the entertainment business and pop culture at large. The actress died at the age of 77.
