  • Padma Lakshmi and Richard Gere have called it quits.

That’s right ladies, Richard Gere is a single man and is back on the market!

Page Six first reported the break up between the Pretty Woman star and the Top Chef host. Sources told the news site that the couple had mutually decided that it would be better if they were just friends.

The couple, who have been incredibly private about their relationship, first started dating six months ago after Gere split from his wife of eleven years Carey Lowell. Somehow they managed to avoid the paparazzi and were only seen out together a few times during their entire fling. “They have been quietly spending some time together,” a source said of the couple’s relationship. “It is all very new and recent.”

Lakshmi was the first to reveal that their relationship was over. During a recent interview, Padma was asked about her love life to which she revealed that she was a single lady. However, she made no mention of the split during her appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Friday.

Lakshmi was previously married to Salman Rushdie from 2004 to 2007, and has a three-year-old daughter, Krishna Thea Lakshmi-Dell, with her ex-boyfriend Adam Dell. Gere has a 14-year-old son, Homer, with Lowell.

Gere’s most recent project has been his movie Time Out of Mind in which he plays a homeless man. While speaking at the Film Society of Lincoln Center last week, Gere spoke about how proud he is of the film. “What probably really helped was I was right in the middle of a divorce, so the emotions were right on the surface,” he joked.

Top Chef will return for its new season on October 15 at 10 p.m. on Bravo.
