Back last year, rapper 50 Cent and a company called Sleek Audio were duking it out in court over a headphone marketing deal that went sour. 50 claimed that Sleek Audio owed him over $261,000. Sleek said 50 backed out on their deal and tried to sell it as his own.
A judge sided with Sleek, and awarded the company a $17.2 million against 50 Cent. But so far, 50 has not paid. So now a judge has frozen 50’s bank account.
TMZ reports that, although his personal bank account is frozen, 50 has access to business bank accounts. And they report that an attorney for the rapper says that he is challenging the judgment, but that Sleek is grabbing for any money it can find while the process unfolds.
He says that 50’s money is “appropriately protected.”
50 was also sued in 2012 by Robert Poindexter of The Persuaders for stealing song samples that he used in a free giveaway song. Poindexter said in the suit, “Fifty Cents [sic] has not denied the infringement, but appears to be basing his defense solely on a frivolous and immaterial claim that the illegal version is not being commercially exploited, but is given away for free.”
The songs in question were The Persuaders’ “Love Gonna Pack Up (And Walk Out)” versus 50 Cent’s “Redrum”. You can hear both below.
