While growing up in Australia in the 90’s, I remember one of the biggest musical events that the country geared up for was the well-known outdoor concert called The Big Day Out. This is a multi-day event where the country’s (and the world’s) big-named rock bands perform in various outdoor stadiums all around the continent. Think of this as basically a modern-day Woodstock.

Recently, a new outdoor concert called St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival (commonly named “Laneway”) is starting to gain attention, especially with the viral power of social networking. According to Laneway’s History & Philsophy page, the festival started in St. Jerome’s Bar located on Melbourne’s Caledonian Lane (right off of Londsale Street), where Indie bands can easily perform their music to their fans. Even though St. Jerome’s bar closed back in the late 2000’s, the music festival vibrantly lives on with world-renowned artists, touring in four other Australian states, as well as Singapore and New Zealand.

Laneway has been utilizing well-known social media and networking sites like YouTube and Twitter to get the word out about its festival and its uniqueness, I have provided a recently published video (from YouTube’s Blogspot blog) elaborating on Laneway:

To see this year’s Laneway artists, be sure to visit their YouTube playlist.

Discussions of Laneway have also been active on Twitter, and I have provided some of the most recent tweets elaborating on this great event:
