LeBron James, The Miami Heat’s star forward shared his feelings with fans following him on Twitter after Friday’s dramatic one point loss to the Utah Jazz. After the game, James wrote on Twitter, “Man I have a sick feeling in my stomach right now! Really wanted tonight’s game. I just had to make one more dang play out there.”

The big man’s sharing with followers gave fans a glimpse of his usually guarded feelings and brought some much needed humanity to the often over-hyped world of professional sports. With all the sponsorships and image conscious marketing, social media gives thoughtful heroes like LeBron James and others the opportunity to connect with fans and to connect with the immediacy of the moment.

In reality, there really wasn’t much more James could have done Friday night short of scoring the final basket himself. His stats were as impressive as the number of followers he has (3.75 million) as part of his tremendous fan base. The Utah Jazz will tell you his thirty-five points (seventeen in the fourth quarter), ten rebounds, six assists and three blocks were near genius and almost enough to keep the Heat in the hunt for the NBA finals.
