Yesterday it was revealed that Valve had abandoned it’s plan for cross platform play between PS3, MAC, and PC players for its Counter-Strike: Global Offensive game. Valve has decided to strip the functionality in favor of offering constant updates for players on the PC and Mac. According to Faliszek, “the beta gave us data for the need to update more frequently – if it settles down(cross-platform play) might happen, but that is a big might and not something we are planning on.”
“The beta has proved we want to update not just the beta, but the game itself post-launch frequently on the PC,” Valve’s Chet Faliszek revealed to Joystiq. “To do that we need to separate the platforms so one doesn’t hamstring the other. So for that, we have removed the idea of cross-platform play — essentially make all platforms stronger by not mixing them.”
I for one don’t blame them after we recently learned from Double Fine’s Tim Schafer that a patch to a console game costs $40,000.
People giving Valve flack for removing cross-play functionalities for CounterStrike:GO between PC/PS3 players. It’s for the greater good!
PC/PS3 cross play removed from the new counterstrike because of the cost of putting out small patches on the PS3?
http://t.co/XZGPcRmx #CSGO has dropped cross platform play. GOOD. Let PC gamers fight worthy opponents, i.e. other PC gamers.
