It was revealed a few weeks ago that the excellent Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning was going to get its first major DLC release on March 20. The DLC was called The Legend of Dead Kel and it promised a new landmass to explore with new characters, quests and a mansion the player could live in.
EA was nice enough to drop us a trailer for the new DLC so we’re not going into this brave new world unprepared. The trailer gives us an admittedly awesome look at the locales and people players will encounter on their journey through Gallows End.
A few things of note in the trailer is that the new landmass is dark, and not just in the lack of proper lighting sense. It’s dark, grimy and nasty looking with a sense of foreboding covering the entire area. The part I’m most excited about, however, is the pirate ship. Dead Kel, who we get to see in the trailer, is a pirate of sorts and it looks to be a jolly good time if he wasn’t trying to kill you.
It also looks like their promise of more story content was not just empty promises. There are hints of major choices and consequences throughout the trailer that should have an interesting impact on the game’s world.
If you haven’t picked up Amalur, now is the time to do it. It’s my favorite RPG of this year by far. It’s definitely in the running for RPG of the year and maybe even game of the year once the end of 2012 rolls around.
The Legend of Dead Kel DLC will be available on March 20 across all major platforms including Steam and Origin.
