Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino, one of the stars of the MTV reality show “Jersey Shore” has reportedly entered rehab for substance abuse. A rep for Sorrentino told TMZ in a statement that they would not confirm why he is there, saying only that he “has spent the past several weeks at an undisclosed location for much needed rest and recuperation after his extensive production and appearance schedule.”
The 30-year old reality star has spent the past two years–and five seasons–partying while filming the hit show, which puts eight people in a Shore house for the summer to film their antics. While the cast members are expected to “work” at a Jersey Shore t-shirt shop, most of their time is filled drinking, fighting, hooking up with other Shore vacationers (and each other) and going out to clubs. Outside of filming, the cast members regularly appear at parties and nightclubs and charge outrageous fees to do so; Sorrentino is rumored to collect between $15,000 and $50,000 per appearance.
All that partying must take a toll sometime, even to veterans like the Sitch.
The show is expected to start filming a sixth season this summer, even though regular cast member Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi is pregnant. She and Jenni “J-Woww” Farley are working on a “Jersey Shore” spinoff, and Pauly D already has his own project on MTV, which premieres on March 29th. With so many of the cast members doing their own thing, and with Sorrentino in a sensitive position, fans are wondering if the next season of “Jersey Shore” could be the last.
Sorrentino recently tweeted that TMZ falsely reported the story, however, giving fans hope that the show will go on.
