The rise in social media use over the past several years has certainly not gone unnoticed by your elected officials, or at the very least by people who want to become and remain your elected officials in years to come. Anymore, sites like Twitter are becoming the norm for brief customer service exchanges, and even political discourse. You can save both your time and the time of your favorite elected representatives by tweeting them your views on legislative issues.
And as it winds down this year’s National Bike Summit, the League of American Bicyclists — a national bicycling and education nonprofit — is encouraging you to do just that. Today marks the last day of the 2012 Summit, which assembles each year in Washington, D.C. to advocate for bike-friendly policies and laws. If your regular activities include both biking and tweeting, the LAB is encouraging you to log in to Twitter today and let your Senators and Congressmen (or -women) know that you bike and you vote.
Here’s a video about the National Bike Summit:
To find out if officials representing your district have a Twitter account, you can head over to TweetCongress. This is a handy site no matter what issue tickles your fancy.
Should bike-friendly legislation be on your list of key issues, the LAB provided some sample tweets for you to follow:
