The Vita version of the Mortal Kombat franchise is set to be released on May 1st.

The game will feature some cool utilization of the touch screen features, including a Fruit Ninja-esque slasher game with human heads instead of fruit. Players can also perform fatalities using the touchscreen, and from time to time blood spatter will spray on the screen, requiring you to wipe it off before you can continue. The game includes a complete challenge tower of 150 games designed specifically for the Vita’s motion and touch controls.

This trailer from Joystiq, shows the touchscreen capabilities a little better.

Mortal Kombat for the Vita will be featured in this years EVO Championship Series, a fighting game tournament series played in cities across the country.
