Today LivingSocial announced that its Escapes program has booked one million reservations since its inception in November, 2010. The rooms were booked in over 1,400 hotel, lodging and tour partners around the world. Escapes bookings can include anything from African Safaris and all-inclusive beach vacations in the tropics, to shopping trips and quiet bed and breakfast retreats.

Dave Madden, general manager, LivingSocial’s Escapes, North America, states “we are incredibly proud to reach such a momentous milestone, and it cements LivingSocial’s place in the travel industry as a leading provider of unique vacation experiences” It took LivingSocial 11 months to sell its first 500,000 rooms, and now books about 62,500 nights per month, which equates to roughly 2,100 per day.

“We are incredibly proud to reach such a momentous milestone, and it cements LivingSocial’s place in the travel industry as a leading provider of unique vacation experiences,” Madden adds. “Seventy percent of Escapes purchasers were not actively looking to book travel when they bought one of our packages, so we are creating demand and bringing new guests to our hotel partners that wouldn’t have booked with them otherwise. Over the past few years, there has been a great shift in how travel is booked, and we look forward to continuing to grow and evolve as a leader in marrying social commerce with the travel industry.”

LivingSocial’s Escapes has achieved the 1 million milestone at an unprecedented pace. Other notable 1-millionth milestones include:

After opening its first restaurant in 1950, it took McDonalds until 1955 to serve 1 million hamburgers.

The Toyota Prius celebrated 1 million hybrid cars sold in the U.S. 11 years after the first one was purchased.

Rhapsody, the online music streaming service, reached the 1 million subscribers milestone in 10 years.

LivingSocial has also recently announced their new Takeout & Delivery service, an online restaurant platform which allows users to order food from thousands of local diners for pickup or delivery. The company has also been in the news after co-founder and president Eddie Frederick announced his resignation.
