While the pregnancies of celebrities don’t usually interest me much (well, except for Snooki…it’s the same morbid curiosity that comes over me when I watch Jersey Shore or lift whatever heavy object I’ve just crushed a spider with to make sure it’s dead), the news of Sarah Michelle Gellar’s impending child struck me because she’s a rarity in Hollywood: happily married to the same man–actor Freddie Prinze Jr.–for ten years.

While long marriages aren’t common in the celebrity world, they do happen. But they usually come to older couples; certainly not to young stars who met when they were in their early twenties (in their case, on the set of “I Know What You Did Last Summer”). The two have proved a lot of people wrong by keeping their personal life just that: personal. There’s a lot to be said for a couple who can manage to stay private in such a public business, especially when news travels at the speed of Twitter these days.

Gellar has had a successful career since she was very young, starring in commercials and soap operas before hitting the big time with Joss Whedon’s “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”, which turned her into a mega-star. She also worked with her husband a couple of times in the movies, including a live action version of “Scooby-Doo”

No word yet on how the pregnancy will affect the next season of “Ringer”.
