Last week, Google’s Matt Cutts posted a video talking about why Google, in most cases, won’t remove pages about you from its index. Today, Google has uploaded a similar video about removal of images from Google Images.
Instead of Matt Cutts, this time the explanation comes from Google Consumer Experience Specialist Jeff LaFlam.
For the most part, the advice is pretty much the same for images as it is web pages. If you’re hosting it, simply take it down, and Google will follow suit. If it’s on someone else’s site, Google suggests contacting them and having them take it down. Again, Google will follow suit, because it won’t be there anymore for them to index.
“In certain cases, such as images infringing your copyright, you can submit a removal request through our removal process,” says LaFlam. “Remember to be patient. It can take time to remove images from our index.”
Google has more tips about this in its help center.
