Mother’s Day is just around the corner, which means that sons, daughters, grandsons, granddaughters, and husbands everywhere will spend at least a little while trying to figure out how to make mom happy. A new survey from Crowd Science suggests that although you still might not want to buy her that brand-new gadget that just hit the shelves, sharing a nice status about her on Facebook is likely to get her approval.
That’s because your mom is on Facebook. In fact, half of the moms on Facebook have even friended their kids. Not only that, but nearly 80% of moms reported sharing photos, videos, and links online. Face it guys, your mother is becoming a little more social media savvy.
And all I can say is good – maybe that will save my email inbox from the forwarding deluge of yore.
Sandra Marshall of Crowd Science says that Facebook (and other social channels) are just modern ways for mothers to do what they have wanted to do for centuries: stay in contact.
“It’s no surprise in the age of social media, that 79% of moms share content like videos, photos and links with friends and family online, but the fact that they use digital channels to stay connected with their kids is very telling,” says VP of research Marshall. “Moms today are no different than in the past. They just want to stay connected with the people that matter to them most: their kids.”
So this Mother’s Day, give your mom the most special gift of all: stop ignoring her friend request. If you don’t want her to know about your borderline-scary affinity for Jack Daniels, fine. Tweak your privacy settings. And since when know that moms love sharing links, if you don’t want to see them, just turn down her volume in your news feed.
