In an interesting new project, former supermodel Christy Turlington is urging moms everywhere to give up Mother’s Day in remembrance of all the mothers who have lost their lives in pregnancy or childbirth-related incidents. Needless to say, she’s created some buzz.
The announcement comes right after the release of her self-made video, “No Mother’s Day”, which features a cast of celeb moms speaking about the campaign to raise awareness for all the women who gave their lives for pregnancy/children. The video is part of her “Every Mother Counts” organization, which is dedicated to the 360,000 lives lost every year. She’s asking for mothers across the globe to spend this coming Sunday in silence, with no communication or celebration, in honor of those women and to show how much a mother is missed when she’s gone.
Actress Debra Messing took part in the video and tweeted about it last week, calling it a “beautiful gift from Christy Turlington and (husband) Ed Burns”.
