Hollie Cavanagh, 18 year-old singer and “American Idol” hopeful, was eliminated on last night’s episode of the popular American television program. After belting out her rendition of Bonnie Raitt‘s “I Can’t Make You Love Me” — a song that was a bit more relevant than she’d probably like to admit — the judges descended upon the singer, declaring that Cavanagh “didn’t feel” her own performance.
“Each week, I was surprised,” Cavanagh told USA Today regarding the elimination. “I just kept pushing myself. Each week that I got through, I was just like, ‘OK, I need to step it up even more next week.’ That was my mindset each week I got through.”
Although she was eliminated before reaching the Top 3, the younger singer still has much to be proud of. During season 10, Cavanagh didn’t even make it into the top 24 despite the fact that the judges seemed to admire her voice. Unfortunately, they felt she didn’t have any sort of emotional connection to the songs she was singing, a nagging problem that continued to pop up again and again this season.
Hollie’s fans, which refer to themselves as “Holliepops”, were understandably saddened by her departure from the competition. Their reactions to the unfortunate news, as well as a few snarky comments for good measure, have been carefully embedded below.
