For those of a certain age, Trent Reznor is a dark industrial god, the leather-clad frontman of Nine Inch Nails and Oscar-winning composer for the 2010 film “The Social Network“, about the controversial founding of Facebook.
But Trent has an even darker past than his lyrics would suggest. It’s a youth filled with big hair and shiny suits. And synthesizers. Lots and lots of synthesizers.
In the past, Reznor has made his work available online for free, which sparked some ire with record labels…but somehow I doubt he’d do the same with music from his old bands, Exotic Birds and Slam Bamboo. Check out these videos of a show played for an audience apparently filled with mostly older ladies:
A lot of musicians have old bands they would probably rather forget and there’s no shame in that. It’s just that Reznor’s image and reputation don’t quite gel with this younger, happier incarnation. No worries, Trent. We still love you.
