Yesterday evening marked the debut of “shock jock” Howard Stern’s arrival on the popular television series “America’s Got Talent”. However, not everyone on the planet was very excited about Stern’s addition to the family-friendly program. The Parents Television Council, for example, attempted to boycott the program before it had even aired, a fact which incensed the controversial DJ to no end.
However, it would appear that “America’s Got Talented” debuted without any offending incidents from the show’s newest judge. “These executives at NBC must be out of their mind to take a risk on me,” Stern joked as the show got underway. No, Howard, I think they knew precisely what they were doing.
Stern — who is apparently a pretty big fan of the show — was on his best behavior over the course of the episode, singing the praises of a dance troupe and a father/daughter singing duo without resorting to any sort of inappropriate comments or expletive-laden rants. Of course, that didn’t stop the guy from tossing out a few zingers during the evening’s festivities. For example, when a particularly untalented individual announced that his parents were deceased, Stern asked if they died from embarrassment.
Ouch.
Fans of the show have taken to Twitter to deliver their own critiques of the shock jock’s performance. You can sample a fine, well-rounded selection of their opinions below.
Watched Howard stern judging highlights. Not bad at all. I’ve never been a fan but he’s had a great career in the media, good for him.
