Battleship Sinks At The Box Office

It looks as though hollywood just might be out of good ideas. The highly advertised, highly touted(by the studio) movie based on a game, “Battleship,” completely bombed at the box office this weekend. The summer blockbuster stars Liam Neeson, Brooklyn Decker, and pop singer Rihanna. It managed to make a measly $25.3 million which is a little over 10% of what it cost to make this movie. This is obviously not good for the movie, add to the fact Disney’s the Avengers won again, and Men In Black 3 comes out next week, I’d say that this movie is sunk! Pun intended.

As I mentioned above, the Avengers was able to take the top spot again with a total of $55 million bringing it grand domestic total to $457 million. It has a world wide total so far of well over a billion dollars. This is more than likely the last weekend that the Avengers will see on the top because mr summer blockbuster himself, Will Smith, is set to slap the box office into submission.

The other movies on the top 5 did decent but none of them really blew anyone away. In at number 3 is Sacha Baron Cohen’s new movie the Dictator which made a measly $17.4 million. I think that he has outlived his Borat days. At number 4 is the Johnny Depp vampire movie called Dark Shadows. The under performing film made $12.7 million in its second week, bringing its total to $50.9 million. Rounding out the top 5 is the new comedy for expecting parents called “What to Expect When You’re Expecting.” It brought in $10.5 million.
