Emanuela Orlandi, a 15 year-old Italian girl who went missing in Rome, Italy over 28 years ago, remains one of the country’s greatest mysteries. According to the Wikipedia page, Emanuela was supposed to be meeting up with a representative for Avon Cosmetics Company, who wanted the young girl to help promote the company’s products at a local fashion show. Despite her sister’s concerns about the job, Emanuela met up with the individual in hopes of securing some work.
Unfortunately, nobody saw the teenager ever again.
Now, nearly three decades after her disappearance, someone has come forward with information which may shed some light on what happened on that fateful day in June. Father Gabriele Amorth, who was appointed chief exorcist by Pope John Paul II, claims that Emanuela Orlandi was kidnapped for use in sex parties organized by Vatican police. Father Amorth also believes that the girl was later murdered by those who abducted her.
“This was a crime with a sexual motive. Parties were organized, with a Vatican gendarme acting as the ‘recruiter’ of the girls. The network involved diplomatic personnel from a foreign embassy to the Holy See. I believe Emanuela ended up a victim of this circle,” the priest reportedly told La Stampa newspaper.
Although various rumors have been circulating for years — everything from organized crime to international conspiracies have been suggested at one point or another — Father Amorth believes that the truth lies within the Vatican itself. He firmly believes that Orlandi was kidnapped for sexual exploitation, nothing more.
In 2005, an anonymous caller told an Italian TV station that the truth surrounding Emanuela’s disappearance could be found inside the tomb of a famous mobster. Investigators recently entered the crypt in search of clues. In addition to the aforementioned criminal’s remains, authorities found a small stash of human bones. Forensic experts are currently looking into whether or not any of them could belong to Emanuela Orlandi. Until they do, the mystery surrounding the girl’s demise will remain shrouded in speculation.
