Actor, comedian, and musician Michael McKean, best known for classic as “This is Spinal Tap”, “Laverne & Shirley”, and “Best in Show”, was hit by a car in New York City on Tuesday. After the accident, McKean was reportedly seen bleeding from his head as paramedics treated him on-site. Although he arrived at St. Luke’s Hospital with a broken legs and lacerations, his condition was upgraded to stable Tuesday night.
“He’ll be okay, hopefully he’ll be fine. It’s pretty devastating,” explained Harriet Sternberg, McKean’s agent. Regarding his scheduled Broadway performance of Gore Vidal’s “The Best Man”, she added, “It’s the first time he will have ever missed a curtain in his entire life. He’s never missed stage, screens in film or television. His understudy has never gone on in 40-plus years.”
McKean was at the corner of W. 86th St. and Broadway in Manhattan at around 3pm when the car struck the actor. Two other individuals were also involved in the accident, though the extent of their injuries is currently unclear.
Actress Annette O’Toole, McKean’s wife, reportedly flew in from Los Angeles to be by her husband’s side. She recently tweeted her thanks to friends and fans for their well-wishes. You can check out other reactions to the news directly below this clip from “A Mighty Wind”.
