CD Projekt RED, the Polish developer behind The Witcher and The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings have announced that gamers without an activation key for the games have only 10 days left to claim their digital backup of the games from GOG.com. For those gamers who do have their activation key, the backup program will continue for “the foreseeable future.”

CD Projekt RED has also announced that the price for The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings has been lowered to $40 in territories that pay in U.S. Dollars. This excludes the U.K., Australia, and E.U. countries, but the company has stated that its “Fair Price Package” has been updated to give gamers a “fair value for their money no matter where they live.”

The backup program was started to give fans of The Witcher series a DRM-free copy of the games, along with extra content such as wallpapers, videos, and artbooks. So far, CD Project RED claims to have given away more than 3 million backup copies of the game. Gamers without a product key for either game were able to receive their backup copy by undergoing a “manual” verification of their game purchase. That is the part of the program that will be ending as of June 31.

Last month CD Projekt RED announced that it is currently developing a video game based on the Cyberpunk pen-and-paper roleplaying game (RPG). The game is slated to be a non-linear RPG set in a brutal futuristic world inspired by William Gibson and Phillip K. Dick.
