Jim Parsons and Rihanna are joining forces for the upcoming Dreamworks animated science fiction flick “Happy Smekday!”, which is based on author Adam Rex’s best-selling children’s book “The True Meaning of Smekday”. The film marks the first big-screen animated feature for singer Rihanna, who made her acting debut as Petty Officer Cora ‘Weps’ Raikes in Peter Berg’s 2012 box office bomb “Battleship”.
Parsons, who plays Sheldon Cooper on the award-winning sitcom “The Big Bang Theory”, is no stranger to cinema, having leant his talents to the films “10 Items or Less”, “Garden State”, “The Big Year”, and “The Muppets”. Additionally, he also did voice work for the The Hub’s 2010 incarnation of “Pound Puppies”.
“Happy Smeckday!” tells the story of aliens who decide to use earth as a hideout from their adversaries. However, when one of the aliens blows his cover, he’s forced to hit the road in order to survive. Tagging along for the global adventure is a teenage girl, who teaches the wayward alien about what it means to be a human being.
According to On the Red Carpet, “Over the Head” director Tim Johnson will helm the project, powered by a script from “Get Smart” scribes Tom J. Astle and Matt Ember. Chris Jenkins (Disney-Pixar’s 2010 “Up”) and Suzanne Buirgy (Dreamworks’ “Kung Fu Panda 2”) will produce the film. Presently, a release date has not been set.
