Summer can be a bleak time for gamers. The blockbuster titles that were delayed past last year’s holiday release dates have already came and went, and its far too early for publishers to begin hyping this year’s holiday line-up. It’s a sort of gaming limbo that leaves gamers searching through indie titles and older, classic games for gems they may have missed.

Luckily, game retailers know this, and many schedule summer sales to sweep up the extra cash gamers have lying around. Good Old Games has just announced its summer sale, which uses daily user votes to decide which of its titles is discounted by up to 60%. Microsoft will be releasing indie and smaller titles to the Xbox LIVE Arcade throughout the summer during its Summer of Arcade promotion.

Today Sony announced that its PlayStation Network (PSN) sale will begin next week on July 3. The sale will feature a selection of popular PSN games that will be discounted by 30%, but PlayStation Plus members can grab the titles for 50% off. Some of the titles included in the sale are Shadow of the Colossus, inFAMOUS: Festival of Blood, Crysis, and Worms: Ultimate Mayhem.

With all of the inexpensive options coming to gamers this summer, nobody will have an excuse for boredom. And when the mother of all summer games sales, the Steam summer sale, finally begins, no PC gamer will have an excuse for anything but joy.
