Fandango just had their biggest growth quarter in company history. After twelve years in the business, online movie tickets have really taken off.
Driving a lot of those sales is an explosion in mobile purchases, which jumped 107% from last year at the same time. In fact, they sold the highest number of mobile tickets in one quarter ever.
Overall, there was a 28% increase in second quarter ticket sales and a 26% increase in traffic.
Driving additional traffic were new distribution deals with AOL’s Moviefone, Microsoft’s MSN, Yahoo!, Regency, and AMC Theaters.
Rick Butler, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Fandango comments on the results of the quarter:
“Fandango has truly become the way today’s film fans get to the movies, and our consecutive record-setting quarters are a testament to that,”
“Our growing traffic and spike in mobile ticket sales have been driven by our unsurpassed theater and portal reach–along with our mobile product innovations, exclusive celebrity interviews and trailer debuts, as well as our ability to guarantee seats for the summer’s most anticipated movies.”
Over 26% of Fandango’s sales are coming from their mobile site and mobile apps, which are up 49% year-over-year. Fandango has also achieved popularity through a recently launched Facebook Timeline being called, Movies with Friends, which allows users to share cinema experiences in real-time with friends.
Fandango also plans to launch a new bilingual destination for Hispanic moviegoers later this year. It will be a collaboration with Telemundo and be called Fandango Cine.
