“The Hunger Games” was an enormous success when it hit theaters earlier this year, and those involved in the making of the sequels have no doubt the other films will be the same. Hollywood elite are fairly foaming at the mouth for a shot at a part in the upcoming sequel, “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire”, and one of the lucky few has already been announced: Phillip Seymour Hoffman.
*Spoiler Alert*
Hoffman, who is perhaps best known for his turns in “The Big Lebowski” and “Capote”, will be playing the role of Plutarch Heavensbee, the Head Gamemaker who takes over for Seneca Crane. While it’s unclear exactly what Heavensbee’s intentions are–and whether they are friendly or not–Hoffman will likely step lively into the role. The movie studio made an announcement about their newest acquisition:
“Lionsgate and the filmmakers of ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ are pleased to announce that Philip Seymour Hoffman has been cast in the role of Plutarch Heavensbee, Head Gamemaker for The Hunger Games, in the much anticipated film adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ worldwide smash hit novel Catching Fire, ” the statement said.
It was also recently announced that Jenna Malone (“Donnie Darko”, “Saved!”) will be playing Johanna Mason, the tribute who will face off against Katniss and Peta when they return to the Hunger Games for the Quarter Quell. The film is slated for release next November.
