If you are a fan of 1970s and 1980s sitcom TV series, I am sure you are aware of who Sherman Hemsley was. Hemsley had a unique and bubbly personality that showcased his talents on the well-known TV shows of All in the Family, The Jeffersons, and Amen.

Prior to his debuts on the big screen, Hemsley (from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) worked as a Post Office worker during the day, and at night, trying his hand at acting and becoming involved in various Broadway plays. Hemsley then moved to New York to broaden his career at many well-known New York ensembles and companies. During his time as a Broadway actor, Hemsley received and accepted a call to play George Jefferson on a new and upcoming sitcom titled All in the Family. Reluctant to leave his Broadway career, Hemsley accepted the offer and joined the cast of the new show two years later.

Even though Hemsley was well-known for his acting in the 1970s and 1980s, Hemsley accepted the role on Jim Henson’s 1990 puppet-based sitcom of Dinosaurs, where he performed the voice of “B.P. Richfeld,” the boss of WESAYSO. Not that many people know this about Hemsley, because he was so well known for his prior sitcom roles.

Sherman Hemsley died on July 24th, 2012, due to natural causes. Hemsley was 74 years old. Various fans have left their respects to Hemsley and his family via Twitter.
