Teens sometimes have a funny way to gauge what is acceptable and what is not. For instance, it may not be cool to bully a girl to her face, but over Twitter it’s quite the norm and, for sure, much easier. Also, when a certain brand of clothing becomes popular, no one wants to risk shoplifting. But if everyone is doing it, what’s the harm?

I’m not sure if these or other ramblings were going through the minds of the mob that descended upon a Chicago store over the weekend, but perhaps a better question to ask ourselves is, “Why aren’t these people more concerned that they are on camera?” Or even, “Why does it take them so long to figure out that they were locked in from the inside?”

Okay, let me backtrack a bit. Firstly, what you need to know here is that teenagers do weird things, and no one really knows why. Most people attribute it to the raging cyclone of hormones constantly swirling through their bodies and shrug it off. But every now and then, young people do something so outrageously weird that it makes one stop and think for much longer than it should probably be pondered. Like when a huge group of teenagers filed into Mildblend Supply Co. over the weekend intent on scoring some free jeans, then proceeded to ransack the joint in order to take what they wanted. Several people can be seen on the surveillance footage stuffing items into backpacks, while others continue to pretend to be looking for their size for a while before realizing everyone around them was already going full-on riot mode.

The jeans in question are of the Nudie variety, which run around $200 a pair. When the owner realized what was happening, he quickly locked the front door and told employees to call 911, but several people figured out his nefarious plot to trap them and turned the deadbolt the other way, escaping with over $3,000 worth of merchandise. He says he’s already learned the names of a few of the thieves, however, just by posting the video online, and is working with police to find the rest.

Let that be a message to you, potential thieves. Big Brother is always watching. Especially in a high-end store that sells expensive clothing.
