Everyone knows Ellen DeGeneres as the bubbly, dancing talk-show host which has been her persona for years now. But before she built a highly successful career around sitting down with celebrities, she had her own sitcom–simply titled “Ellen”–and now, it looks like she’s trying to make her way back into the world of comedy TV.
DeGeneres has pitched and sold a show to NBC, along with the senior writer from her talk show, Lauren Pomerantz. The show is reportedly about a woman in her early thirties and her battle with the feeling that she’ll be single forever.
The show is the latest in a string of pilots under DeGeneres’ production company, A Very Good Production, to be picked up by networks. One project involves her wife, Portia De Rossi, and another is in the works with FOX.
DeGeneres is still firmly rooted in her talk show, however, and recently interviewed country singer Kellie Pickler about her dramatic change in appearance; the “American Idol” alum Kellie Pickler shaved off all her hair in a show of solidarity for her best friend, who is suffering through chemotherapy treatments.
“I was able to be with her for her first chemo treatment, which was important I think for both of us, because, like I said, she’s my big sister,” Pickler said. “She really is. We’re not blood kin but we are sisters.”
