Twitter Unveils New Look For Profiles

Twitter CEO Dick Costolo went on the Today Show this morning to talk about the company, and ended up unveiling an all new look for Twitter profile pages. And because he was on the Today Show, the various NBC personalities are the first ones to show off the all new design.

What you see above is how the Today Show’s official Twitter page looks on the web, iPad, iPhone, and Android. The first thing that you’ll notice is that there’s now a giant image at the top of the profile. Twitter is calling that the new “header photo,” and they say that it will help users “express themselves instantly, anywhere.”

Once a user uploads a header photo, that same photo will be seen across all devices. Now, users have three different photos to worry about. The new header photo, their smaller profile picture (which is included inside the header photo), and the background photo (on web only):

“While the header photo keeps your profile simple and consistent on iPhone, iPad and Android, you will also still have an additional photo – a background photo – on twitter.com. Upload a background image to complement your header and profile photos,” says Twitter in a blog post.

On mobile, Twitter profile pages have received another upgrade. Now, user photo streams will appear right under a user’s most recent tweets, and users can swipe left or right through thumbnails and select photos to view in fullscreen.

Twitter’s new header photo gives users another way to make their page their own, and that goes for people and brands. If you think that it sort of reminds you of Facebook’s cover photo/profile picture combination on Timeline, you’re probably not alone.
