Ubisoft today revealed a new trailer for the upcoming Splinter Cell: Blacklist. The game features a new voice for the protagonist, Sam Fisher, and what appears to be a new attitude.

The trailer, seen below, actually feels like a trailer for a new season of 24. It’s obvious that Ubisoft is going for the Modern Warfare and Battlefield gaming demographic with its marketing campaign. If the game actually plays like those fast-paced shooters, it might turn off some long-time Splinter Cell fans who appreciate more tactical and stealthy gameplay. There are some fast cutaway’s during the trailer that imply the game still has plenty of stealth sections, though.

In a cliche twist, it appears Sam Fisher will be joining the U.S. military in fighting terrorists this time around. The U.S. president hires Fisher to track down members of a terrorist organization called the Blacklist, who are ramping up attacks against U.S. interests. To do this, the president gives Fisher the “fifth freedom,” which, from what I can gather, is the U.S. equivalent of a “license to kill.”

The “fifth freedom” is a reference to U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s 1941 speech on the “four freedoms” everyone in the world should have. Those four are freedom of speech and expression, freedom of worship, freedom from want, and freedom from fear.
