Just a few days after touting that they had the “perfect map,” Foursquare has now improved on it and inserted it into a brand new update for their iOS app. According to Foursquare, the new app not only features the updated map but is also faster and ready for the iPhone 5.
“Like any good map, if you type a specific place into Explore, we know where it is and can find it for you. But because we also know what you and your friends like, what’s popular in the neighborhood, and have data from tens of millions of tips and over 2.5 billion check-ins, we can also give you tailored suggestions instead of one size-fits-all results. So whether you search for “Mel’s Diner,” “dumplings,” or “Ethiopian,” we help you find exactly what you’re looking for.”
This means that a search for “dumplings” may pull up restaurants popular among a user’s friends, and will also contain information like user tips and specials.
Foursquare has also added brand new search categories that will allow users to filter their maps interesting ways. Previously, users could sort search results by “top picks,” specials,” and by categories like “food,” “arts,” shopping,” etc. Now, they’ve added categories like “Haven’t been” and “been before.”
You can also limit the results to ones that you’ve “saved” to your to-do lists.
Yesterday, Foursquare updated their Android app to bring back the popular “nearby friends” feed view.
