Facebook Tests New, More Interesting Homepages for Logged Out Users

Earlier this year, Facebook began showing users ads when they logout on desktop. The ads replaced the old “connect with Facebook” landing page that was unremarkable, to say the least. Now, it looks like Facebook is testing a new batch of logged out pages to a select group of users, to enhance what users see on each side of the login/logout process.

According to screenshots obtained by TechCrunch, some of the new homepages for logged out users feature an interesting polygon map of the Facebook universe, as well as nice looking couple with some out-of-focus fall foliage in the background. Take a look at one of the new pages:

We’ve yet to see any new logged out homepages. We are still greeted with the traditional sign-up box, which has been recently flanked with Facebook’s “Chairs” video that the company debuted for their 1 billion user milestone. Facebook has confirmed that the new homepages do exist, but gave the standard “we’re constantly testing new products and features across the site. We have nothing more to share at this time” response we’ve all come to know and love.

Of course, showing any of these new image-driven logged pages would make Facebook miss the opportunity to show users another advertisement. Facebook has yet to put ads on their logged out homepage, but if they eventually do it could look something like what we see on the logout landing page:

And every now and then, logged out users will also see a landing page that features a Bing search box.
