Tim Tebow: RB Position For Jets A Possibility

Since Tim Tebow signed on with the New York Jets, it seems his name is everywhere, even more than before. There were huge expectations waiting for him in New York, but when he got there, he had to contend with backing up Mark Sanchez–which the media blew up into a near-catfight–and merging his Christian legacy/fanbase with that of the Jets’. Now that he hasn’t been used much on the field, Jets coach Rex Ryan is looking for other avenues Tebow can take in order to be useful.

“That’s a possibility,” Ryan said. “The thing about Tim, with him being a football player like we’ve always talked about, by playing quarterback he knows all the positions and so, can you plug him in at running back? Can you plug him in at tight end, whatever? I think the answer is yes.”

Of course, this speculation comes after the announcement that Pilal Powell and Joe McKnight–the team’s backup running backs–wouldn’t be at practice yet again after injuries forced them out. And though Tebow says it’s not something they have planned on or actively discussed, it’s possible that he’ll get the chance to prove himself in a new position soon if for no other reason than the Jets want to make sure they made the right decision.

While he may have something to prove to hardcore Jets fans, it seems team officials have faith in his abilities.

“I think Tim Tebow can be good at whatever he wants to be good at,” offensive coordinator Tony Sparano said.
