There are a lot of smart, funny, and insightful celebrities to follow on Twitter. That’s what makes it fun, right? Nobody really cares what their friends are tweeting about – it’s all about finding a window into the minds of those you admire, those who have created your favorite books, movies, art, etc.
Early this morning, American Psycho author Bret Easton Ellis took to Twitter to muse on a possible sequel to his controversial 1991 novel. He starts off by mentioning that he’s been thinking about the novel’s main character Patrick Bateman (played by Christian Bale in the film adaptation) a lot lately.
Patrick Bateman is everywhere. He came up to me at Musso and Frank tonight and asked if I wanted a cucumber slice in that Hendricks Martini.
Patrick Bateman is now listening to the last Wilco record.
The more Patrick Bateman is haunting me the more I want to write a sequel. But it’s so gory and awful I don’t want to put myself through it.
And then things take an interesting and gory turn. Although it doesn’t seem like he’s that into it at the moment, it makes for compelling stuff. Only on Twitter, folks:
Patrick Bateman as a teenager in the early 80’s and the horrible things he does with teenage girls. So grotesque that I don’t think I can…
Patrick playing Altered Images singing “Don’t Talk To Me About Love” while slamming an ax into the crotch of a 15 year-old girl upsets me…
Do I really want to write Patrick Bateman make a teenage girl eat her own entrails while making her listen to Gene Loves Gezebel? Confused.
Split Enz “I Hope I Never” played over a scene of dismembering a teenage girl is probably not where I’m at. As much as I like the idea…
Eighties music and homicide. Sounds familiar.
Ellis is the man behind The Canyons, the new-noir thriller set in Los Angeles and starring Lindsay Lohan and porn star James Deen. You can check out the trailer here. It’s slated for a 2013 release.
