After the Japanese Nintendo Direct this morning, Nintendo of America held its own Nintendo Direct. Both Nintendo Directs covered many of the same games, but this time the information is in a language I, and presumably you, can understand.
First up, Nintendo talked more about LEGO City: Undercover. Much of the same information from E3 is shared here again like the player being able to go undercover with disguises to solve puzzles. It was revealed that LEGO will be releasing a new toy set in its LEGO city line that will include a code that unlocks exclusive cars in the game. It will be available early next year.
Nintendo then went into its first-party games like Wii Fit U and Pikmin 3. The company showed footage from both games, but only provided more details on Wii Fit U. The game will feature numerous mini-games from past Wii Fit games and some new ones built from the ground up for the Wii U game. It seems that a Samba dancing mini-game is among them. It will also include a pedometer called the Fit Meter that transfers steps into the game for added bonuses. It launches in the first half of 2013.
As for Pikmin 3, the footage shown makes it clear that the Wii U can push some amazing visuals. The gameplay looked similar to previous entries in the series, but there’s apparently new gameplay mechanics that NIntendo still isn’t sharing at this time. The game will be out in Q2 2013.
The WarioWare games are back on the Wii U as well with Game & Wario. It’s a collection of games that are built specifically around the Wii U gamepad. It’s not exactly like WarioWare as the games are not microgames anymore, but rather full-fledged games that require the player to pay attention to the GamePad as well as the TV screen. Nintendo says it’s a singleplayer game that can be played with others as they keep an eye out on the TV for any changes the player should be made aware of.
On a final note, Nintendo had Team Ninja deliver some news on upcoming DLC for Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge. In a free title update coming soon, the game will be receiving new playable characters in the form of Ayane, Momiji and Kasumi. The first two characters are Ninja Gaiden staples, but this will be the first time that Kasumi has been playable outside of the Dead of Alive franchise.
It was show this morning that Nintendo would be releasing Google Maps and Panorama View on the Wii U early next year. Nintendo of America shared more details on both saying that they plan to offer both apps as paid downloads on the eShop. Panorama View is particularly interesting as it will provide hi-def video footage of exotic locales from around the world. The player will be able to use the GamePad to move around in the video as if they were really there.
As for 3DS, the company shared more details on a number of high profile upcoming titles. The first of which is Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon. The game is the first true sequel to Luigi’s Mansion in over a decade. The game will take place across multiple haunted mansions as Luigi attempts to capture the ghosts that have escaped from Professor E. Gadd’s laboratory. The game will launch in the Spring of 2013.
Arguably the most exciting 3DS game on the horizon is Fire Emblem: Awakening. Nintendo didn’t show much of the game, but it looks to be following a similar formula to past games in the franchise. Not much is said of the story, but it does feature a character who is claiming to be Marth. It will be out on February 4.
Brain Age is also getting a sequel called Brain Age: Concentration Training. The new game will deliver daily five minute exercises that will help build your concentration. It seems to be another collection of mini-games that will challenge you with math, word and other logic puzzles.
Finally, Nintendo said that the free DLC for New Super Mario Bros. 2 will remain free until the end of January next year. It will also be releasing new DLC packs today that add a number of new coin rush challenges to the game.
