Foursquare has just made a small tweak that will make the service much better for small businesses attempting to interact with customers via events. Starting today, location owners on the service can create their very own events that users can specifically check-into when they check-in to the location.
For example, the local bookstore can now create a special event for a book signing they’re holding, or the local bar can create an event for the band that’s playing.
Of course, Foursquare users have been able to check-in to specific movies at theaters and specific shows at concert venues for some time – it’s a good way to make your check-in most detailed. But this latest move lets businesses add their own events.
Foursquare offers these tips to businesses looking to generate buzz with events:
- When they’re deciding where to go next. Draw them through the door with events you’re already hosting.
- When they check in at your business. Add events to encourage people to check in – plus their friends will see it in the app (and might stop by!).
- When they look at their check-in history. Help them record their experiences and remember what a great time they had at your event.
