One of the most impressive games from Sony’s 2012 E3 presentation has finally gotten a release date. The Last of Us will be released for PlayStation 3 on May 7, 2013.

The news was revealed at the Spike Video Game Awards. As promised last week, a story trailer accompanied the announcement. The video shows a ruined world where survivors – including main characters Joel and Ellie – huddle together in destitution or in authoritarian enclaves. They ride horses, hide from marauders, and, of course, defend themselves from zombies.

Naughty Dog and Sony also revealed the bonuses gamers will receive for pre-ordering The Last of Us. The “Sights and Sounds Pack” will come with all pre-orders, featuring the game’s soundtrack, a PS3 theme, and PlayStation Network avatars of Joel and Ellie. In addition to that, GameStop pre-orders will come with the “Survival Pack,” which includes extra starting in-game cash, bonus skins for Joel and Ellie, customizable character items for multiplayer, bonus experience points in multiplayer, and a “multiplayer melee attack booster.” This attack booster doesn’t entirely sound fair, but it’s vague enough that it could be a minor perk.
