Fat Joe, a New Jersey-based rapper, pleaded guilty today for failing to file taxes for the years 2007 and 2008. And like so many celebrities before him, he’s finding out that not filing can end up being very costly.
Joe reportedly owed taxes for 2009 and 2010, as well, but will only have to make restitution for the previous two years as part of a plea bargain. All told, the unpaid taxes amount to over $718,000.
“‘Fat Joe’ has taken responsibility for his tax failures. He hopes to repay his tax indebtedness,” said his attorney, Jeffrey Lichtman. Lichtman also said that Joe has already taken action to begin repaying the debt and hopes to have it fully taken care of by his return to court in April.
The rapper, who broke onto the scene in 1993, is currently facing jail time and/or a $200,000 fine for failing to file.
