There aren’t many people who don’t know who the Kardashians are by now. Even if you’ve never seen an episode of their show, you can likely pick out two or three of the family members simply because their faces are all over magazines and television and the web, where one can’t swing a hair weave without hitting at least one of the sisters.
But does that mean you like them? Doubtful. As popular as the family is, they are also very controversial, and overexposure means most of us are sick of hearing about them by now. That negative public opinion doesn’t just affect them, however; it also affects the people they date and marry.
Stephen Master, SVP of Sports for Nielsen, says that the sports world alone has been very negatively impacted by the Kardashian sisters’ involvement with players, and has created some infographics which show just how strong their pull can be.
“Between Lamar Odom, Reggie Bush and Kris Humphries, those guys have all had their N-Score (an algorithm which measures the popularity of athletes) hurt, and it isn’t because of their awareness. Their awareness has actually shot up, in every case, but their negative appeal has also shot up,” Master said. “You need to do well, and you also need to date someone who people like. The Kardashians are controversial. They have really negatively impacted the marketability of [Odom, Bush and Humphries],” he said.
Take a look for yourself, though no measurements have been taken to assess the negative impact of the Kardashian Kurse on musicians. Yet.
