Google Fiber is slowly working its way through Kansas City at the moment, but Google may already have other plans in store for its 1Gb/s Internet service. In fact, the company has stated that it would like to bring Google Fiber to more cities around the country. That next city could be New York City.

Business Insider is reporting that Google will be hosting a press conference in New York this morning at 10:30 a.m. EST. The details of the conference have not been announced, but Mayor Michael Bloomberg will be there. It’s looking to be a big deal, but are there any hints as to what will be announced at this mystery press conference?

A job posting, spotted by Twitter user Rafael Rivera, is looking for a Google Fiber Sales Rep for New York City. The posting describes the candidate’s job as such:

The Google Fiber Sales Representative be a part of a team to evangelizes Google Fiber services to small and medium business and multi unit dwellings. As a Fiber Sales Representative you will support plan for our approach in the market including multi unit dwellings, small business, restaurants, and hotels. You’ll reach out proactively to both small businesses, while articulating how Google Fiber Solutions can help make their work more productive. (And then, you seal the deal!) You excel at product pitching, cultivating a strong base of new clients and working with fellow technical Googlers to devise solutions and support for your clients.

That sounds like Google will be putting feet on the ground in New York City to sign people up for Google Fiber. With the announcement of Google Fiber in Kansas City, the company began an aggressive street campaign where sales reps would visit communities and share the benefits of Google Fiber. The exact same thing may be happening in New York City soon.

Of course, all of this is just speculation at the moment. We won’t know anything for sure until the actual press conference starts at 10:30 a.m. If it does turn out to be true, it will be a very exciting start to 2013. New York City is an entirely different beast compared to Kansas City. If Google Fiber succeeds in such a large city, we might finally see some meaningful reform from ISPs in other parts of the country.

UPDATE: We may have jumped the gun a little on the Google Fiber rumors. According to TechCrunch, Google will be announcing free Wi-Fi for the Chelsea neighborhood in New York City. This is the same neighborhood that houses Google’s NYC headquarters. It still doesn’t explain the job listing, however, so we’ll be looking out for any potential hints of Google Fiber expansion at the press conference.
