Ned Wertimer, the beloved actor who played doorman Ralph on the highly popular ’70s sitcom “The Jeffersons”, has died from complications after a fall. He was 89 years old.

Wertimer began his acting career in college and went on to star on Broadway in productions such as The Live Wire and Bye Bye Birdie. Later, he moved on to film and television. His “Jeffersons” character was infamous for always holding out a hand for a tip and became a notable character on the series, which ran for ten years.

The Buffalo native served in WWII and had an impressive resume in both film and television; his last big-screen role was in “Pirates Of The Caribbean: At World’s End” in 2007.
