Less than one month after the devastating attack on Sandy Hook Elementary School–in which 20 children and 6 adults were murdered–comes news of another school shooting, this time at a California high school.

At least two people have been shot, police say, and a suspect has been taken into custody. It’s unclear at this time whether the shooter is a student at Taft High School or what the motive might have been. Officials say they received 911 calls starting at around 9 a.m. this morning and that students were evacuated onto the football field.

The incident comes at the same time Vice President Joe Biden prepares to speak about gun control and what can be done within the nation’s schools to make them safer.

We will update this story throughout the day.

UPDATE: The student who was wounded in the shooting is reported to be in critical but stable condition. The shooter, who has not been identified, is likely a student. The other wounded party, a teacher, was hit in the head with a pellet but refused medical attention at the scene.
