Angelina Jolie seems to be about as open-minded as anyone, so when she took her kids on a trip to Cambodia recently, she wasn’t afraid to let them try the local delicacies.
“My boys love to eat crickets. It’s their favourite thing,” she said. “They ate them like Doritos.”
Jolie says she actually had to put a stop to the cricket-eating, because she was afraid the boys would get sick after eating so many; however, she says she tried them, as well, and finds them just as yummy as a potato chip. Jolie says she’s also tried cockroaches, too, but that they’re a bit trickier to eat.
“There’s this very pointy bit on their stomach you just can’t eat. You have to kind of pop that off,” she said.
The mom of six is well-traveled, and so are her children, so it’s no surprise they’ve gotten adventurous when it comes to their diets. But Jolie says it was more about letting the kids experience something from their cultures, and she’s happy Maddox–who she adopted from Cambodia when he was a baby–enjoyed them. She admits she hasn’t tried all the “weird” stuff, however; spider soup and tarantula-on-a-stick haven’t made it to her menu just yet.
“It does seem like an odd thing to eat,” Jolie said. “I don’t know if I can get around the fur, but you’ve got to try everything.”
