Google has launched a Google Cloud Print app for Android, enabling users to print from their Android devices to any Cloud Print connected printer. You can use the app to easily print pictures or documents from other apps, and track the status of print jobs.

Android has supported Cloud Print for some time, but it didn’t have a standalone app until now.

Google announced Cloud Print over three years ago. It was originally a Chrome project for Google, designed to complement its then-new Chrome OS operating system, which was of course entirely cloud-based. Google wanted to show that you can perform common desktop computing taks, such as printing, from a cloud-based operating system so hesitant people would embrace the format.

While Cloud Print was designed for Chrome users, it could be used from any app on any device, OS or browser, and Google finally launched it in January of 2011. By December, six million printers had already connected.

But now with a standalone app for Google’s much more popular Android operating system (compared to Chrome OS), it stands to reason that user adoption will grow significantly.

The app requires Android 2.3.3 or higher. Google has a list of supported printers here.
